In honor of the final day of Women's History Month, please join us as we explore the history of women's athletics at Yale. Today, Yale has a female athletic director, and female students and alumni who have gone on to national recognition as well as the Olympics. But the path was far from smooth. How did women's athletics evolve at Yale over the years, from those early days after the passing of Title IX in 1972, and up through the 80's, 90's, and to today?

Please join us for a panel discussion with three alumnae athletes: Anne Keating 77, Patricia Melton 83, Jennifer Bevorka 98, and two current student athletes: Coco Chai 23 and Clare Boone 23. They will be joined by Yale Director of Athletics Vicky Chun. Don't miss it!

Where Do I Go from Yale? (WDIGFY) takes place annually (this year, April 8 and 9). WDIGFY is hosted by the Yale Graduate School Alumni Association, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS), and the Yale Alumni Association's Careers, Life, and Yale program. Featuring career panels, discussion groups, and networking, WDIGFY taps into the wealth of knowledge and experience of Yale alums with advanced degrees. For GSAS and other Yale students, it’s your chance to explore career pathways and consider the many choices available to Yale students in advanced degree programs.

In this preview, Bhaskar Ghosh ’95 PhD, Norma Padron ’12 MPhil, ’14 PhD, and Orlando Yarborough III ’06 MPhil, ’10 PhD will discuss the benefits of attending WDIGFY and how to make the most of Q&A, networking, and signing up for WDIGFY coffee chats. Our preview event will include the panel and a Q&A.

Interested in how to identify an introvert and debunk some common misconceptions on what being an introvert means? This discussion will address introversion in a holistic manner. We will discuss how introversion impacts our development in social, academic, and work spaces using statistics and personal anecdotes. We will then wrap up by shifting the paradigm on how introverts can be valued in those spaces, which will then highlight the strengths that make introverts great leaders.

Every April, Yale hosts events to help admitted students understand what it means to be a Yalie. We (alums) want admitted students to know that their exciting Yale journeys will span many, many years — far beyond their time on campus. You’ve walked in your shoes: want to chat with them about your Yale experience before, during, and after your campus years?

      Help admitted students learn:

      • Why you chose Yale
      • What your life at Yale was like
      • How Yale still plays a role in your life

We hope you’ll join admitted students in a relaxed discussion — with breakout rooms — from 8-9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 20.

Please join us this Thursday evening for a unique discussion with Yale School of Architecture alumni who helped shape the School's seminal Building Project program, now known as the Jim Vlock First Year Building Project. The Building Project has been offered to first-year MArch I professional degree students since 1967 and is a unique chance to design and build a structure as part of their graduate education.

The earliest projects were outside New Haven and included community centers in Appalachia and a series of camp buildings in Connecticut. Recently, partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, Neighborhood Housing Services, Common Ground, Neighborworks New Horizons, and currently Columbus House have led to a focus on affordable housing. The houses allow students the experience of working with a client and the opportunity to respond to the challenges of affordable housing and urban infill.

Join us as we hear from School of Architecture alumni and their experiences with the Building Project. The show will be moderated by alumnus J.C. Calderón 92 MArch.

The show is dedicated to Paul Brouard, 61 MArch who passed away on April 3. We'll have the chance to share stories about Paul, who worked for 40 years and with over 2,000 students as Director of the First Year Building Project. We will be joined by Paul's wife of 44 years, Linda Brouard.

How can we turn thought into action? Coming up with an idea is one thing, but implementing it or manifesting it in or as your life is another matter. Most of us have plenty of opinions; how many of us take any steps to turn them into more than armchair musings or social media rants? What are the economic forces and cultural practices beyond individual inertia that work against a life of purpose? Is individualism the very thing that keeps us from being engaged, and what can pushback against the “tyranny of no alternatives” that maintains worn-out structures?

This conversation with Bruce Jennings ’71 comes at a time when Yalies are considering how to have more impact on matters of concern. Join others to discuss how one can live one’s values.

Whether caring for a parent, spouse, child, or other loved one, the strain can be significant. Lauren Steffel 04, a clinical psychologist who specializes in evidence-based treatments for trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders, has also served as a caregiver in her own family and can attest to the challenges of caregiving from both a personal and professional perspective.
